Guest Blog by Steve Shooter, Venue Manager, York.
Every three months or so, all our managers get together in one of our schools for what we call our company conference, a chance to catch up with fellow managers and the leadership team. During our conference we spend time catching up on company developments, new schools, new managers and break off into groups for training.
These training sessions are, in a sense, ‘Train the Trainer’ type sessions, all of us managers then return to our schools and train our staff on new policies and procedures, updating them on any changes or developments that may have occurred. Many of our schools have spaces suitable for such training sessions. I’m particularly looking forward to our September conference as that is taking place in York, at one of my schools, Millthorpe.
My favourite part of the day is getting to spend time in the same room as my fellow managers. Many of us are in regular contact with each other anyway but with there being about thirty of us it is hard to stay in touch, especially as were are spread all over the country. It is always nice to see those managers I don’t speak to regularly and bounce ideas off each other. Naturally we gravitate to the managers we have things in common with, I myself naturally seek out the two or three managers who are geographically closest to my schools in York, so I try and say hello. As much of our work is done from home or on the move in our schools, it is nice to feel a bit more like part of the community we are, as a company.
Maybe you are a member of a group or community who needs a space to get together, whether it be for sporting reasons, education or just socialising. There is a good chance we have a school close to you, check out the website to find your nearest venue and don’t hesitate to get in touch with our Venue Managers who will happily discuss your needs.
