As October comes to a close, Autumn is now in full swing. Here in Northamptonshire, the harvests have all been brought in and the field ploughed ready for next years crops. For my dog walks, this can cause some havoc as previously fallow fields, have been ploughed and sheep and animals are grazing in some of this years crop fields.
This has lead to some unfortunate loss of life as dog owners have allowed their dogs off lead in fields where this was previously fine, only to find the field full of sheep. Several have now been killed, which is very sad, and quite shocking! Luckily, my Lurcher, Tess, has a low prey drive, and although she loves a chase, is not interested in a kill. We do have a lot of rabbits here with myxomatosis, and she has finished a couple of them off, which I believe is a service, as they do suffer when infected by myxomatosis.
This week I have been following on Twitter, some interesting activities taking place in and around Northamptonshire, which are helping our youngsters get involved with woodland themed ventures. We are lucky to be surrounded by stunning countryside and wonderful parklands. On the doorstep of the school, in Pitsford, there are also large expanses of water, where you can fish, and sail.
During the winter, whilst its a tad cold to be sitting by a lake fishing, we would be happy to host talks and events here in school. As I’m passionate about the countryside, I personally would welcome anyone who would like to hire facilities as either a one off, or on a regular basis, to help educate people on some of these wonderful outdoor pursuits.
Please contact me if you have an idea or would like to view the facilities we have.
