Well, here we are, just a few days before Christmas. Having worked in retail for many many years, this time has always passed in a blur for me, getting just Christmas day off. I say off, but once a big lunch has been prepared and eaten, I’ve hardly had time to catch my breath before heading back to work on Boxing Day. This year, I’ve noticed a petition going around about shops closing on Boxing Day. Apparently it has accumulated a large volume of signatures, mostly, I suspect, retail employees. You don’t really need a petition. If there is no demand, the shops won’t open, its that simple.
Speaking of demand, I have been astonished that apart from Friday evenings, the Astroturf here at Moulton is almost fully booked – I have just two slots left! I’m also starting to get enquiries for Saturdays, which I am absolutely delighted about! The Cynthia Spencer Hospice is holding two, fundraising exercise sessions here in the Sports Hall in February. We are also hosting a get together for local Guide groups.
I’ve started to think about exercise myself. I used to regularly achieve more between 10k and 20k steps per day, which has dropped to a measly 6k as the weather has got colder. So one of my resolutions is going to be to boost my step count. Watch out doggies! Oh, and did I mention I have a new puppy – he is a rare breed, Lucas Terrier. This is a ‘created’ breed whose forebears must be either a Norfolk Terrier or a Sealyham. Sealyham Terriers are an endangered breed who was once very popular with the Hollywood stars and Royalty. My little pup Monty, is more Sealyham than Norfolk and is the perfect companion for Tess the Lurcher. Those two little devils will help me walk off my winter stoge!
