Well we are now into week two of January – I wonder how many New Years Resolutions have already fallen by the wayside? As a type 2 diabetic, diet control is very important if I want to retain my eyesight and both legs. Complications from this progressive disease can cause both of those catastrophic losses. Even knowing that, I have still found it hard to maintain my blood glucose levels, regularly falling off the wagon t o secretly eat things I know are bad for me – like chocolate!
To help me on my journey with this issue, I have invested in a ‘Daily Greatness Wellness Journal’ to monitor and improve my diet and exercise levels. This year long, undated journal is filled with planners and great advice to help me stay focused. This beautiful book was not cheap, but still far cheaper than a gym membership, and is available in different formats for other areas of focus too, like business planning, yoga and a general journal, The idea being that the daily input will keep you motivated and on track. I can see me giving these as presents as they are just so lovely.
I’ve noticed that it is very hard to break established habits, and equally hard to establish new ones, no matter how easy or attractive the results are, which is why so many resolutions just die before January has ended. I’m hoping that my journal will ensure that I say on track and I don’t slip further into medication and eventually insulin for my diabetes.
Exercise is also fundamental in helping keep blood sugar levels under control, as well as a raft of other well documented health benefits. Enhanced mood is also a great benefit, as exercise releases endorphins which improve mood and can seriously help people who suffer with the winter blues.
So…no excuses, get out there, join a club, get moving. Use it or lose it!
