We’re focusing on one our largest and most historically significant Schools in Today’s School Spotlight Blog. Luton Sixth Form College opened in 1966 and was England’s first Sixth Form College. The College has grown significantly since then and we are thrilled to work alongside them now.
A Sixth Form of this size, currently able to host nearly 3,000 Students, understandably has many stand out facilities to explore. These multi-purpose facilities range in purpose from the Active bookings at the Sports Hall, Grass Pitches and Dance Studio to Event based bookings at both the Auditorium and the Westside Hall Area.
Luton Sixth Form is currently being looked after by one of our most experienced members of staff our Operations Director, Ernesto Coll. We asked him his thoughts on the College and what he likes most about working there…
“The College is a beautiful new building with impressive modern facilities. It boasts a large spots hall complete with seating, A large dining area with display equipment, dance studio and theatre to name but a few. It is the perfect location for activities, sports, worship or family events. There is a large car park and outside football pitches as well as an astro. If you have a group to run, a party to plan or want to host a sports event come and have a viewing, you will not be disappointed”
With so much to do and so much to see it is hard to pick a facility to start with. We’ll start with what is frequently the most popular Venue, in terms of bookings, at Luton Sixth Form; the Sports Hall. This large venue can hold up to 300 people and is available to book as either the whole Hall or half the Hall for up to 150 people.
Popular bookings here include Archery Clubs, Indoor Cricket Clubs and Street League Football. There is huge potential for a range of other clubs and activities to be run here with equipment available such as Basketball Hoops, Table Tennis Tables, Netball Posts, Volleyball Nets and much more.
If you wanted to take your Sporting bookings outside then there is a range of options to book at Luton Sixth Form. There are several Grass Pitches to choose from and also a highly maintained Astro Turf.
The main Grass Pitch, which can be used for full sized 11v11 football games, is located adjacent to the College’s changing rooms which makes it perfect for team or club based training sessions or even match days. There are other smaller pitches close by which are often used for 9v9 and 7v7 football games, perhaps more suited to younger children’s parties or training sessions.
Moving away from Sport based bookings, the College hosts lots of other exciting events spread out across the facilities. One of the more popular facilities is the Dance Studio.
This pristine Studio is constantly busy with all sorts of Dance and Drama groups utilising the space on evenings and weekends. It’s clear to see why these clubs and teams would want to set up here, the wooden floor and mirrored walls are both looked after with supreme care, giving the Studio a professional vibe. The Studio is also fortunate enough to have Ballet Barres installed, making it an ideal booking for Ballet rehearsals and performances.
Another facility worth highlighting at the Sixth Form is the Theatre. This is one of the larger spaces available for booking, with space for up to 250 people. The Theatre has a stage area as the focal point of the room with tiered seating behind it, making the room a perfect place for both conferences and worship events.
We hope you’ve enjoyed this tour through Luton Sixth Form’s facilities. The College is one of our most trusted partners and we hope we can welcome you in soon.
