Guest blog by Steve Shooter, Venue Manager for York.
Firstly, my apologies for missing a week, it was my wedding anniversary and I took my wife to Chester for a few days, change of scenery, spend some time together, but most importantly, go to the zoo! I don’t like animals, but I’m obsessed with TV shows about animals, particularly ‘The Secret Life Of The Zoo’ which is filmed at Chester Zoo.
Unfortunately for us, we chose to go on a ridiculously hot day, we must have walked ten miles each in thirty degree heat, although we did enjoy the summer sun!
But summer is an interesting time for us at SchoolsPlus, many of our indoor sports team go play outside for the summer, many are winter sports and just don’t run through the summer term and many of our schools have exams to contend with. It can be challenging. On the other hand many of our schools have fantastic outdoor facilities, which range from 3/4G astroturf pitches to outdoor play areas.
Here in York we have great big playing fields which are used by a local cricket club during the summer months, and I have been known to spend my Saturdays out on a picnic bench with my laptop while they play in the background.
aybe one of our venues near you has a space you could use for your kids football practice, or a summer fair. We have outdoor parking areas perfect for a car boot sale, or as overspill parking for events nearby. We in York are hosting a Boys and Girls Brigade camp over the summer, using the playing fields as a base while they explore York and the surrounding areas, we are very lucky to have the space for a giant marquee and several smaller tents, meaning a couple of weeks of hoping for more sunshine!
Why not check out our venues near you, who knows? We may have the perfect space for you…
