Something different today. A blog from our new Venue Supervisor at Causeway School, LUKE!<\/p>\n

I\u2019ve just reached the two-week mark at Schools Plus and I can safely say there have been no disasters yet. Next week I fly solo for the first time. Fortunately, I have been put in good hands and am looking forward to steering the ship.<\/p>\n

And what a ship it is. The Causeway School is a marvel of architecting brilliance with its tall ceilings, East-Asian infusions, and serene courtyards. The school loops around in a wonderfully symmetrical way, or as my manager Toby says, \u2018like a donut\u2019.<\/p>\n

The past two weeks have been a testing time, as I juggle a Masters degree in film with supervising a big school like Causeway. But it has been a rewarding time (although waking up at 5am for a morning lecture will never be wanted) due, in large part, to the support of Toby and Schools Plus.<\/p>\n

I\u2019m a film man through and through. I see the world through a lens, always relating my real world experiences to my cinematic ones. This has certainly been the case with my time at The Causeway School, and is a big reason for my enjoyment of the role.<\/p>\n

We facilitate many varied events here and it has been a surreal experience watching activities I have only ever come into contact with on celluloid.<\/p>\n

Every Monday I live out the pleasure of the high school movie and, in particular their American-style marching bands as the Kingfisher Scout Band rock up with their enormous drums and trumpets.<\/p>\n

On a Tuesday, I enjoy the sports movie trope of watching epic battles play out between the members of the Badminton Club.<\/p>\n

On Saturdays, Bring It On jumps off the screen and into our main hall, as Ice Fusion cheerleaders practice their flips, spins and twirls.<\/p>\n

And Sundays bring the hard-hitting roller-derby boys and girls of the Bourne Bombshells to our sports hall. I had only ever witnessed the high-octane action of roller derby in a film called Whip It. It is a very surreal and exciting experience to see it in the flesh.<\/p>\n

We hope to see more of these fiction-to-reality shifts as more lettings come our way and more facilities are booked out. It can only get better from here.<\/p>\n
