Welcome back to another week of our Schools Plus Interview series – Who do you think we are?
In this weekly series members of the Schools Plus team will be asked a series of questions about them and their job here at Schools Plus. We thought this would be a great way to find out more about our staff. There is a huge array of jobs and people within the company and every interview will be totally different. You will get an insight into their day to day life, their time before working here and a bit more about the team.
Who are you?
What is your role at Schools Plus?
I’m the Team Leader at Dinnington High School, South Yorkshire. My Venue Manager is Dave Maher.
As Schools Plus is all over the country, where are you based?
I’m based at Dinnington High School which is in Rotherham with close links to the M1 and M18 in South Yorkshire.
How long have you worked for Schools Plus?
I started working for Schools Plus back in September 2016 when Schools Plus first partnered with Dinnington High School.
What did you do before you worked at Schools Plus?
Before I started working for Schools Plus I worked in debt collection, mainly for motor finance. It was a very different career.
What is your favourite part about working for Schools Plus?
That’s a tricky question as I love my job with Schools Plus! I think it must be the people, both colleagues and customers. There is such a diverse customer base that I feel I learn something new each day. Most are so friendly and chatty it’s great getting to know so many different people. Plus, my work colleagues are fantastic with great personalities so it’s always great working with them when we have big events on.
Can you describe a typical working day for you?
This depends on whether it’s Summer or Winter. If it’s the Summer it’s’ football, football, football. I would have a typical start time of 5:30pm and have customers playing football in one or two of the gyms and on the Astro. At the same time there is marital arts going on alongside badminton and a slimming world group.
My day involves setting up, ensuring the events run smoothly and making hot drinks for customers who require one. I ensure the site is safe, secure and lock up after the events have taken place.
What do you think the future holds for Schools Plus?
I think Schools Plus has a fantastic future ahead and I for one am excited to see and be a part of that future. I can see the company expanding and becoming even more well-known, partnering in many more schools across the country!
What do you like to do in your spare time?
I love spending time with my family and going for nice walks with them and the dog. I enjoy going out for meals and being in the sunshine, when we have it!
You are a crayon in the box what colour would you be and why?
I would be fuchsia pink! Very precise I guess but it’s my favourite colour. It’s bright, wild and a bit different.
Finally, what is your favourite song and why?
It’s funny you should ask this question as it’s something I was thinking about the other day! It has to be Tina Turner’s Simply The Best. My Grandad used to play the keyboard and sing this to me as a very young child right up until before he passed away when I was 11. It is something I still remember to this day and will always love this song for that reason.
Come back next week for another Schools Plus interview.
