At Schools Plus, we have a full friendly team of on-site staff to make sure our customer’s bookings run smoothly every Evening, Weekend and School Holiday throughout the year.
Within this team are our amazing Venue Supervisors, who with their expert knowledge of their partner schools, are in place to ensure customers are greeted at reception, shown to their facilities and assisted with any problems or issues they may encounter throughout their stay.
We recently had the chance to sit down with Sherry Webb, a current Venue Manager who has previously worked as a Venue Supervisor with us, to answer some questions about the Venue Supervisor role.
Q) How long have you worked for Schools Plus?
A) Since July 2019
Q) Which Schools Plus venues have you worked at throughout your time with us?
A) Moulton School and Science College, Latimer Arts College, Northampton International Academy, Ark Academy (Wembley) and Ark Academy Elvin.
Q) Can you talk about a typical day in the life of a Venue Supervisor?
A) Consists of Opening premises. Checking for safety and fire, Assisting with customer bookings and answering customer questions and queries.
Thinking on your feet when problems and issues arise. maintaining cleanliness and hygiene. Interacting with school staff, cleaners and site team. Relationship building. Reporting any issues to the Venue Manager (VM) to get them quickly resolved if I myself am not able to…The list is quite extensive and changeable on a daily basis!
Q) What are some of the challenges in the role that you face?
A) As a Venue supervisor, you are limited to the information you have to share with the customer and you can sometimes need support from a manager. You are the frontline and the first to have to deal with customers, which in certain situations can be quite challenging!
Q) Are there unique challenges and issues across different School Plus venues?
A) Every school is different, with different entrances and different regulations in place so it’s about adapting to new environments quickly and working together with both the local community and the heads of school!
Q) How many other staff members do you usually work with on a typical shift?
A) We usually operate alone and are very capable to do so. However, in busier schools, particularly in the London area, we do sometimes work in pairs to make sure we stay on top of things.
Q) Do you remember any special bookings or events which you particularly enjoyed hosting?
A) Yes, recently a ‘fun day’ was booked at Ark Elvin Academy. I spent the day on shift, having to deal with different concerns from both the customers and the cleaning crew, but it was a great day overall and everybody enjoyed the atmosphere!
Q) What actions do you have to make sure are taken care of for each booking?
A) Each booking is different in its needs but generally we ensure that the site is ready, safe and clean before the booking begins, We make sure the safety and integrity of the booking are maintained throughout the bookings, that the customers are happy, and that all areas are cleaned afterwards.
Q) What do you look forward to most when coming in to work?
A) Personally I look forward to having a smooth-running shift and that all customers leave happy having enjoyed their bookings with us.
