CHRISTMAS ALL-READY?
Christmas is three months away but Enfield Council is already in planning mode! This week, the Council revealed it’s plans for the festive decorations
Enfield council said it has set aside a whopping £50,000 to replace the existing lights and “turn town centres into winter wonderlands to attract shoppers.”
Four Christmas trees will be set up across Enfield. One in Enfield Town, Palmers Green, Southgate Circus and Cockfosters Green. Lights will also be hung on park trees in Ponders End and added to buildings in Edmonton Green.
Unfortunately, the Council cannot afford to completely replace all of it’s existing lights due to budget cuts and are depending on the generosity of local businesses to donate the extra money or decorations that are needed.
Instead, the council is asking local businesses to donate money or any extra decorations they have to help boost the festive spirit.
Council cabinet member for economic regeneration and business, Alan Sitkin said: “We simply do not have that money, so we are asking retailers and local businesses who think their areas would benefit from more extensive displays to contribute towards their cost.”
The council intends to cover the costs of testing, storing, fitting, and powering the funded lights, and will keep using them in the future.
Any businesses who wish to help the council out should either call 020 8379 5233, or email michael.farquharson@enfield.gov.uk by October 7.
We can’t wait to see the final result!
