I started working with Schools Plus in December 2014, I remember my first shift, being shown around and what to do, hoping I wouldn’t get lost in what seemed like the endless mazes of corridors that the school had and trying to remember which key opened what door.
However I do love customer service, some people find that strange and schools plus opened a new avenue for me to explore. For the past five years I have been working in the housing support sector, by day I help people who were previous rough sleepers on their path back to independent living and by night now I help direct parents and children to the bathroom as well as working in a small unit to deliver an overall service for all our bookings.
My Venue Manager and other colleagues have been very helpful and now I feel like part of the furniture, I can pretty much navigate the hallways and sports fields with my eyes closed and know a lot of the customers by their first names which can help when having to deal with any problems that may arise.
Also on a personal note it has helped me to discover a new area of customer service I haven’t really had much experience in the past, which is the most demanding of all groups, children. From kids who like to use their water bottles as a football to dealing with grazed knees and their unique ability to miss the bin completely, although some of our adults can be just as guilty of this.
As a soon to be father myself Schools Plus has not only given me valuable life experience but working within a great team has taught me to be quicker on both my feet and in mind. Also got a pretty nifty jacket 🙂
