Welcome back to another entry to our Ask Us Anything series!
Who are you and what is your role at Schools Plus?
I’m Jerry Wright, master and commander of the Schools Plus booking system, font of information, and all-round techno-grease-monkey.
What is an activity that you enjoy doing in your spare time away from work?
Gardening and cycling, but not at the same time.
How long have you worked for Schools Plus?
If you were stranded on a desert island and could only bring 3 things, what would you choose to bring and why?
My vegetable seed collection – you’d never go hungry on my island. My music collection – something for every mood, and something to motivate.
… Also, a boat.
What is your favourite part about working for Schools Plus?
Every day I feel like I’ve done something worthwhile. Kids get better educational facilities and adults become more connected with their local schools.
You are a crayon in the box what colour would you be and why?
White. All the others get worn down to little stubs whilst white, whilst often useless, remains pristine for longer.
Can you describe a typical working day for you?
Up at 3 or 4am, either checking on overnight processing, releasing new software or out for an hour on my bike.
Stop for breakfast at around 8, then take the dogs for a walk in the woods.
Back at my desk, which is conveniently located at home, for 9-9:30. Occasionally I have bug-fix days where I try to address as many niggles as possible, otherwise it’s just ploughing on with whatever new functionality that’s been asked for.
Usually I finish between 5 and 6, but the nature of Schools Plus is that much of our work happens in the evenings so I sometimes get calls to much later!
What’s your favourite film and why?
To choose one would be unfair to many others. Maybe Cinema Paradiso because it’s about the nature of films and their ability to tickle the imagination. Plus, it resonates from my time living in Italy.
What do you think the future holds for Schools Plus?
Looking at the data…..yes, key indicators are positive.
Thanks to Jerry for fitting us in to his busy day. We have to say his suggestion of bringing a boat to the island is the best we’ve heard so by far from our staff!
