Zumba ….doesn’t the word itself just sound a bit funky and exciting?
When I first heard about this ……thing……I thought it came from a Wii game to be honest. You know when you’re at a bbq and the men are all chatting away, the ladies are…..doing whatever ladies get up to at a bbq ( I think they just chat….my girlfriend always thinks she’s in the Carribean with a cocktail, feet up and basking in the sun.) Anyhow, later on in the evening when no-one has bothered with eating anything, because the liquid diet had taken hold, in passing I heard the ladies mention this very African sounding activity.
How wrong was I!? I read up on the origins of Zumba and it’s a pretty exciting story. It makes you want to be a part of it!
Have a look here.
I have to be honest and say that I inherited Charlotte Macari’s Zumba classes just over two years ago when I started managing the business. From the off, I loved the personalities that attend the class. On a Thursday evening at 18:00 ladies mostly, of all ages shapes and sizes turn up at The Academy to attend their weekly Zumba class. For the next hour the sports hall comes alive like never before with loud music and Charlotte encouraging everyone through what is essentially a cross between a dance routine and aerobic exercise. In the summer the sports hall doors are opened and the Tunstall comes alive with music that is so full of energy that I’m sure people have a little boogie when the drive past.
After the class everyone leaves very red, but apparently very happy. I can tell you with certainty that Zumba makes you happy. I’ve never tried it, but I see the result in about 80 – 100 ladies every week.
