So we have been gifted with a few days of great weather but alas, this is Great Britain and like many things here, it will not last. This is true with more than just the weather at the moment. As you, all know we have recently had a referendum. If you didn’t know you must have been living under a rock or perhaps you found a way to escape the incessant frothing of the Politian’s. Which of course reminds me of the old joke “How do you know when a Politician is lying? Because his mouth is moving”.
The referendum has created a lot of uncertainty for a great number of people who live and work in the United Kingdom. It is certainly better to remember that even though we have all voted way we thought best, regardless of which way you chose to vote. The one thing we need to remember is what we call this beautiful country, United Kingdom. Moreover, that is what we should be, united. What better way is there to show the rest of the world that we are a United Kingdom, than by doing things together as communities? Play football, volleyball, join a club or even just support a local event by attending.
Life goes on around us every day and sometimes we forget to interact with our neighbours. Which is a crying shame, as we have one of the most diverse and amazing countries on this little planet. Why not spend a little time connecting with others before it’s too late. In a few years, we will be out of the EU and the opportunity for some of us to experience the culture of our European cousins may be gone. Unless of course, you can afford to take a holiday abroad. However, if you believe the naysayer’s, you’ll be lucky to able to afford to put food on the table.
So, just take this opportunity to chat to the people from Latvia, France, Germany and Greece down the pub or the guys from the Polish Store down the road. Then why not arrange a friendly football game? Is that not why they call it the ‘universal game’? If like me, you’re not really a sporty person anymore, then why not arrange something else. Maybe you could bring people together for a good cause. I’m sure there are many charities that deserve a little attention and would be more than grateful of any support you could give. You could put on a charity comedy night or a variety show.
Whatever it may be don’t be afraid to get us here involved too. Even if you are just looking for somewhere to play a game of something or host an event.
