Have you ever wondered why as a species we are so moved by music? I am unaware of any other creature to walk this planet that is or has ever been as poetically bound to music as we are. It would appear that we love music so much that we have created a vast array of sounds or genres. These genres have the ability to affect us in ways that are quite frankly astonishing.
Have you noticed that if you are in the middle of a workout and pushing to reach your goal, your preference for music might change? We tend to find music that contains a heavy bassline, with a steady up tempo beat helps invigorate us and push us that little bit harder. Yet, if we want to relax we will tend to opt for a calmer genre of music. These are not just my observations; scientists have proven case studies where music has been used to influence both our mental and emotional state. One such study found that classical music played in the background can help improve your concentration. In fact the same study showed that infants who were played classical music in the womb and through infancy, developed at a much faster rate and with higher IQ’s and concentration skills.
Music affects us more than we know but, it also brings us together. We also find a comradery with others thanks to music. We attend all sorts of music recitals; bring communities together from all over the world. It would appear that music also binds us socially too. It brings likeminded people together to enjoy its rhythmic charm. We have even used music to help others, such as band aid. If you have ever had the opportunity to experience a live music concert, then I’m sure you will understand the power that music holds over us. It can bring us together, lift us up or bring us down. However, one thing is for sure, it’s worth experiencing music as a group. There is a whole new level to appreciating something as part of a collective.
So, why not go check out a local band. Or if you are a local band looking for somewhere to play, check out Schools Plus. We may have venues near you that would be perfect for you to put on your own concert.
Let music and Schools Plus, bring you together.
