Schools Plus is proud to host a variety of activities at Dinnington High School. Ranging from football, tennis, dancing to yoga.
Yoga is held in the schools Old Gym on a Thursday evening and is popular with teenage girls.
But what is yoga? Well yoga is for the body and mind and typically combines physical postures, breathing techniques, mediation and relaxation.
Yoga can be very beneficial for some health problems like chronic lower back pain, high blood pressure, sciatica and pregnant women.
Yoga is also very good to maintain a persons health and well being. It can increase a persons physical fitness, relieve stress and enhance the quality of life especially in people with chronic pain and certain medical conditions.
In teenagers yoga can be particularly helpful especially during the stressful years of exams as it said that it can help reduce stress, improve mood and promote physical fitness as well as allowing them to be more flexible, self controlled and have more discipline. Some teenagers say they can focus better in exams and so perform better, others say that yoga encourages their creativity and that yoga improves self-esteem and body image.
