Looking back at last month’s many exciting activities hosted at Schools Plus – KAA, one of the highlights was the British Exploring Society’s event ‘NEXT STEPS’ that took place in our venue on Saturday 22nd of October 2016.
We watched the British Exploring Society literally take over our venue, using a number of our facilities including our Community Reception, Theatre, Dining Hall and a few of our class rooms, for a successful, all-day event, celebrating the organisations most recent youth expeditions.
So who are The British Exploring Society?
An organisation with a strong vision, striving to provide exciting, challenging, life-changing expeditions in wild and remote overseas locations for young people. They remain committed to the idea that their work should benefit young people from every area of society.
“Our team is dedicated to giving young people a life-transforming opportunity to discover how capable they are by developing uniquely ambitious expeditions for them all over the World. As you would expect, they are a pretty able bunch themselves. They are practical & problem-solving, energetic, good-humoured, ethically driven, positive, open-minded & collegiate….and modest. So they’ll hate this introduction.” – Honor Wilson-Fletcher, CEO British Exploring
The British Exploring experience provides an almost unique opportunity for young people to discover their capabilities at key points in their transition to adulthood.
‘NEXT STEPS’ Event at Schools Plus – KAA
‘Next Steps’ is a chance for explorers and leaders to reunite after their expedition, to reflect on the lessons learned during their time away, share stories with friends and family and make the most of the experience for their future.
On the 22nd of October the British Exploring Society used our venue’s facilities for a range of workshops including entertaining presentations from young explorers, focusing on their recent experiences and adventures during their Peruvian Amazon and Indian Himalayas expeditions.
Featured speakers of the day included Polar Explorer Ben Saunders (watch his TED talk about his 1,800-mile round trip journey from the edge of Antarctica to the South Pole and back here) and the organisation’s CEO Honor Wilson-Fletcher.
Check out their amazing highlight video, including footage from our facilities during the event day (seminars in our classrooms and theatre) as well as exciting moments straight from the explorers adventures abroad.
We have been delighted to work with the British Exploring Society as their hosting venue. One of the most rewarding elements of our work here in Schools Plus, is interacting with passionate event organisers and supporting them in the best way we can.
