“A Venue Supervisor’s View”
By Ian. Gravesend.
It’s that time of year again when we welcome back most of our clients after the summer break. We have had a few groups in during August but it is generally a quiet time and with a few “Schools Plus” staff changes in the 3 Gravesend Schools it has given us time to undertake their training.
Our schools are very supportive when it comes to making facilities available and we still have many of these areas available for use by external groups. So if you are looking for Sports Halls, Activity Halls, Drama and Dance Studios, Indoor Cricket Nets, Football Pitches etc., in evenings or weekends, we can probably help you. Other sports we may be able to help with are badminton, rugby, and basketball. In fact whatever your need, please contact us and we will see if we can help.
On a personal note, as a venue supervisor I always enjoy meeting the groups that have been with us for many years. We have a close working relationship with our group leaders who appreciate that we are there to help.
It can sometimes be demanding role, with a need for a bit of flexibility, some common sense, the ability to think on your feet and a sense of humour. Most shifts are fairly straightforward but on occasions life can throw a spanner in the works, such as one evening having to call for an ambulance for a dislocated kneecap.
Also. I never ceased to be amazed by the amount of school clothing I find when we are in the schools. In the past I have found soaking wet blazers on the sports field, ties found in the grounds, coats left on chairs and so many pencils, that if I had collected them I would have had probably enough to restock the school. Any items found are returned to the School reception desks but I do wonder what the parents must be thinking.
