Mike joined the company as a Venue Host in 2010, working at Mosslands Academy on the Wirral. In 2011 he was promoted to Venue Manager when the previous manager moved on.
At the same time, Schools Plus has been enjoying rapid growth, and we have had a commitment from the outset to identifying and nurturing talent within the company. The entire leadership team have been promoted from our cohort of venue managers, and the majority of our venue managers have been promoted from front line staff.
Still, Mike’s story is an impressive story of progress – with a background in sales he was always going to be a strong candidate to take on responsibility for the company’s business development. However it was sheer gumption and raw ability which earned his seat at the leadership table with full responsibility for all matters HR – including recruitment, development, training, safeguarding, disciplinary matters and reward. Supported by the company to build his HR skill set, Mike now has full CIPD membership and has formalised his professional development with a Diploma in Human Resources.
We believe that getting it right for our staff is tremendously important – being good with people is one of our four values. So we hope that we give a very clear message to every employee of the company that the person responsible for HR truly understand the pressures and priorities of the front line having served there himself with distinction.
In his spare time Mike is an accomplished actor and director. Oh, and he loves dogs. So if you see any rogue pictures of our four-legged friends on the website, you can be sure who is responsible.
